Advocate for Children to Return to Schools
To Our CPOC Family,
Concerned Parents of California PAC believes in the importance of access to education for all children in this nation. This is a tumultuous time that has revealed many inequities, challenges, and fears for people of all backgrounds. We are now facing the impact of social, educational, economic, and mental health consequences for myriad families due to widespread school closures.
Children Should be in School
The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) has noted that it "strongly advocates that all policy considerations for the coming school year should start with a goal of having students physically present in school." Many parents agree, especially since there is mounting evidence that children are less likely to get infected with COVID-19 than adults (Davies), less likely to develop serious severe or critical complications (CDC), and are less likely to infect others (Institut Pasteur). The recent experience of schools in Australia also found no evidence of children infecting teachers (NCIRS).
CPOC and its partners are concerned that the deleterious trade offs for 100% distance learning are not manageable for many families.
CPOC Believes & Advocates for Parental Choice
Join others in Sacramento, CA this Saturday July 25th in a grassroots event to help highlight the reality that will be felt hardest by families with special needs children, those with physical and mental health issues, those facing internet inequality and the digital divide, and systemic discrimination against less economically-viable communities.
